Expert Tip
The symbol where X and P are combined together is the oldest of the Christograms and a type of sacred abbreviation for the name of Jesus Christ. It is formed by placing the first two (capital) letters – X and P (XP) – of the Greek word ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (CHRISTOS) so that the vertical path of P passes through the centre of X. It is often found together with the letters A and Ω, which symbolize God’s words in the Bible, “I am the Alpha and the Omega”
