Ancient Greek mythology tells the story of the golden ram that saved Phrixos and Helli, when Ino tried to take their lives by deceitful means. Their mother, Nefeli, sent the golden-wooled ram she had received from the god Hermes, which carried the two brothers on its back and carried them to Colchis. Later Phrixus sacrificed the ram on the altar of Phyxius Zeus, and then gave the Golden Fleece to Aetes, the king of Colchis.
