A rosette is a stylized flower design. It is the Greek rosette, a decorative motif used extensively since antiquity and in various cultures. From Mesopotamia, Egypt, ancient Greece and Rome, to India and Central Asia, we find it in architecture, jewelry, as a decoration on clothing and musical instruments. It is a powerful symbol used for important religious festivals of antiquity, but also as a protective amulet.<\/div>\n

The rosette comes from the natural flower shape formed by petals radiating out and around the central stem of a plant.\u00a0 In jewelry history, the well-known Mycenaean rosettes are usually found with 6 or 8 or 12 leaves around a central element. In jewellery from the 15th century onwards, rosettes are formed from a central coloured gemstone surrounded by smaller diamonds. The shape of the rosette depends on the shape of the central stone, and is often round or oval but can also be squared or drop-like.<\/div>\n

Rosette rings are also often used in place of the solitaire in engagement or wedding rings, and can be made with diamonds only, or any combination of gemstones.<\/div>\n

The rosette pattern is used not only in rings, but also in earrings, pendants, as repeating patterns in necklaces, bracelets and even on brooches.<\/div>\n
